Committee to Hold Hearing on
Neighborhood Blight Reclamation and Revitalization Act

Harrisburg – The Senate Urban Affairs and Housing Committee, chaired by Sen. John Pippy (R-37), will hold a public hearing Tuesday on the proposed Neighborhood Blight Reclamation and Revitalization Act.

The hearing will take place Tuesday, June 17 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Capitol’s Senate Majority Caucus Room.

The Neighborhood Blight Reclamation and Revitalization Act, Senate Bill 1291, is sponsored by Sen. James Rhoades (R-29). It would expedite the process of prosecuting owners of blighted properties and give municipalities the authority to go after the financial assets of negligent owners. The bill would clarify the identity of property owners and hold them responsible for the municipal costs to secure, remediate or demolish blighted structures.

The bill is part of a legislative package introduced earlier this year by Senator Rhoades, Senator Pippy and other legislators aimed at helping municipalities prevent blight and remediate abandoned properties.
